Cu\u00e1ntos deportistas no alcanzar\u00e1n la gloria, \u00bfo cu\u00e1ntos van a despilfarrarla? \u00bfCu\u00e1ntas novelas se quedar\u00e1n a medias en las computadoras o en la mente de sus creadores? Me gust\u00f3 especialmente porque trata de un joven (J.R. Moehringer) que pretende convertirse en escritor y sus dificultades para conseguirlo. En segundo plano cuenta la historia de su padre, un tipo con una voz espectacular que cautivaba a quien la escuchara, y al que se le refiere s\u00f3lo como \u201cThe Voice\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\"  id=\"_ytid_68236\"  width=\"758\" height=\"426\"  data-origwidth=\"758\" data-origheight=\"426\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/5-DS9vtLeEs?enablejsapi=1&#038;autoplay=0&#038;cc_load_policy=0&#038;cc_lang_pref=&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;loop=0&#038;rel=1&#038;fs=1&#038;playsinline=0&#038;autohide=2&#038;theme=dark&#038;color=red&#038;controls=1&#038;disablekb=0&#038;\" class=\"__youtube_prefs__  epyt-is-override  no-lazyload\" title=\"YouTube player\"  allow=\"fullscreen; accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen data-no-lazy=\"1\" data-skipgform_ajax_framebjll=\"\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Voice trabajaba como locutor de radio. Nunca se hizo cargo de J.R., quien buena parte de su infancia lo busc\u00f3 en las distintas frecuencias donde sol\u00eda presentar el <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Top 40 <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">con esa apabullante y misteriosa voz. Dada su poca estabilidad, a cada rato cambiaba de estaci\u00f3n y alguna vez regres\u00f3 a buscar al peque\u00f1o J.R. y a su madre para ver si viv\u00edan juntos. Sin embargo, el tipo se puso una borrachera de aquellas y la cosa acab\u00f3 peor. Le pidi\u00f3 dinero prestado al T\u00edo Charlie, a quien J.R. quer\u00eda como a nadie, y acto seguido le dio una golpiza.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014Pero a pesar de todo eso \u2014le confes\u00f3 el t\u00edo Charlie a J.R. varios a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s\u2014, cuando pienso en \u00e9l lo primero que recuerdo es esa voz inigualable, esa reverberaci\u00f3n \u00fanica, esa fuerza. Y ahora que soy m\u00e1s viejo me pregunto cu\u00e1l fue el maldito problema, por qu\u00e9 acab\u00f3 as\u00ed. Y si\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00bfCu\u00e1ntas voces habr\u00e1n de extinguir el alcohol y las drogas, cu\u00e1ntas historias?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tambi\u00e9n este fin de semana me encontr\u00e9 con una publicaci\u00f3n en un grupo de corredores que me estremeci\u00f3, un hombre de 50 a\u00f1os que celebraba diez de sobriedad y de correr: \u201cMe encontraba camino a la destrucci\u00f3n, pero decid\u00ed cambiar de destino. Hace poco un conocido me dijo que \u00e9l \u00fanicamente correr\u00eda para salvar su vida, y yo le dije que eso precisamente hago.
